Smith’s series of drawings and collages are from
research into looking at regeneration plans and footage
between the early 1900's and onwards. She explores
with the vision of what regeneration means for commu-
nities and the promise of planning for the better. Smith
finds collage an interesting medium to create images
that are nostalgic yet idealistic.
Smith exhibited the Home Sweet Home series at a number of East End markets in 2011, which over the past 10 years have become major tourist attractions and hugely gentrified. Seeing these developments in the area, leads this work in progress to explore further into how communities react to change and gentrification within the East End of London.
